Ruth Arleen Fisher Whitcomb

Palmyra - Ruth passed away October 21, 2022 after 3 months of health complications ending with Covid.  Ruth was born in Rochester, NY in 1931 to Howard and Arleen Fisher.  She graduated from Palmyra Classic School in 1949: and then a 1954 graduate of The University of Rochester School of Nursing.    After working several places she found her forever home as a nurse/teacher in the Palmyra Elementary School and retired after 26 years in 1986.

Ruth is preceded in death by her mother and father, Arleen and Howard Fisher; her brother, Bob Fisher; her nephew and his wife, Ken and Lorraine Fisher; also her uncle and his wife, Jay Floyd and Alice Fisher.

Ruth leaves behind her great niece, Sarabeth (Evelio) Quinones; their son, Anthony; and his daughter Audrey; her cousin, Wayne (Bunny) Sherman; their children, Matt and Julie (Scott)Adlard; her cousin-in-law, Alice Sherman; her children, Paul, Doug (Sherry), and Jim.  She also leaves behind her loving and forever friend, Jane Crosby; and her immediate and extended family, who adopted Ruth as family and included her in all their lives and activities.

Ruth always loved music.  She participated in band and glee club in school and continued, with her love of music, as a member of the church choir.  She was passionate about her garden, until her knees didn't allow her to continue. She loved animals including her two beloved dogs and then two adopted cats.  She even enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds out her back window, who were entertaining.

She was in several charitable groups including Kings Daughters and other women's missions' groups through church. She will certainly be missed by all who knew her through the years.  Her generosity and genuine caring attitude reached far and wide.
