IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon L.
Long
October 2, 1941 – November 7, 2024
Valrico, FL/Fairport, NY: Sharon "granny" passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 7, 2024. She is in the arms of Jesus and in no more pain or sorrow. We rejoice in this.
Sharon married Gordon "grampy" in 1964 in a beautiful candlelit ceremony. They were married for 55 years until Gordon went home to be with Jesus in 2020. They were inseparable and built a beautiful life together.
In her professional life, Sharon dedicated years of service as a Licensed Practical Nurse, caring for others with compassion and skill. But above all, she was committed to her family, finding immense joy in their company and creating lasting (often funny) memories together.
Granny loved teaching Sunday school and talking about Jesus. Granny attended church with grampy every Sunday no matter the Rochester (and in her earlier years, Indiana) weather. She loved making Christmas ornaments and made some of the most remarkable ones out of blown out eggs.
There are so many fond memories of granny working on puzzles, watching television (she loved action movies), working on word searches, and participating in the football pool (and often winning even though she would just randomly circle teams). Granny also enjoyed counted cross stitch and made some remarkable pieces. Granny and grampy took pride in their home and every night after dinner in the warm months, they would walk around the yard with their dog and admire their home and gardens. They would then return to their front porch and sit on the glider enjoying each other's company.
Her love for ice cream was legendary. She also loved tomato and butter sandwiches (interesting, we know). She didn't like cooking, but much to her family's dismay, she loved to bake hard chocolate chip cookies (soft ones would have been nice). She also wasn't fond of cleaning, so you could find piles of stuff everywhere; that included folding her Klondike wrappers and pushing them down into the couch. You could also find some nectarine and plum pits in the couch to go with the Klondike wrappers. She loved shopping at her own garage sales finding her own treasures that her family snuck in there.
She was quite the jokester (see where we get it from?). You never knew when you would get a handful of ice cubes shoved down your pants at her house. Forget about sneaking in the house with a to-go container, she had ears like a bat. Granny could often be found at K-Mart catching the blue light specials or shopping at Fay's. In the summer she loved camping in the Thousand Islands and spent the days up there fishing. In her later years, she loved coloring and colored very intricate pieces.
Granny had a heart of gold and loved animals, always owning them throughout her life, including her English Springer Spaniel, Neala.
All jokes aside, she was the best granny and we will hold the memories close to our hearts. We ask you to have some ice cream and smile in her memory.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Gordon "grampy"; sister, Margaret (D. Gene) Gardner; brother, Richard Skodinski; and her parents, Helen and Arthur Skodinski.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Barb (David) Schneider; granddaughter, Valerie (John) Burba; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Brody, and Gavin Burba; Theresa Ceriale, who was like a daughter to her; Scott Wood, who helped with the family; sister-in-law, Kathleen Skodinski; and her nieces and nephews.
