IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan G.
(Gardner) Smith
December 23, 2022
Susan G. Smith "Sue"
Mother, you will always be in our hearts and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
Canandaigua: In loving memory of our mother, Susan G "Gardner" Smith, who passed away on December 23, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, David Smith. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Gardner; her two sons, Ken and Tim; 3 grandchildren Mikel, Kenny and Kaleigh and 2 great grandchildren. Sue will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sue spent many years on the 'River'. She grew up spending her summers on Occident Island. Like with so many others, they had no running water, or bathroom facilities and they took 'baths' in the river water. She and Dave spent their years on Grindstone Island where Sue would become a board member on the Thousand Island Trust. Sue was also an active member of the Grindstone Island Methodist Church and assisted with many fundraisers. She had many friends and would always know someone everywhere she traveled on the River. Sue spent her remaining years at Ferris Hills Retirement Center in Canandaigua where she had many friends who will miss her. While we were growing up, Sue was always there for us, whether we needed help with our homework or just a shoulder to cry on. She instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. Our mother was a true role model who we will always look up to.
