Walter G. Scherer, Jr.
Palmyra: Passed away on April 14, 2016 at age 72. He was born on February 21, 1944 in Plainfield, NJ to the late Elizabeth and Walter Scherer, Sr. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper for the 82 nd airborne. He was employed by Xerox for 34 years. Walter was a loving husband to the late Elaine Scherer for 47 years. The two resided in Palmyra, NY, where they raised their family. Walter and Elaine loved to travel and go to casinos for fun. Some of Walter's hobbies included anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and tending to his garden along with his wife. He loved to spoil all of his fury friends and enjoyed animals. Above all, family was most important to Walter. He would never miss a chance to spoil his children and grandchildren. Walter will be dearly missed.
Walter was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Scherer; grandson, Brian Schaurer; step-father, Daniel Turner; step-mother, Norma Turner; grandmother, Clara Litchenwalter; mother and father-in-law, Ernestine and Norman Nagel. He is survived by his children, Susan Taylor of Lyons, NY, Sandra Orlopp of Lyons, NY, Ann (Tim) Vollertsen of Palmyra, NY, Deborah (David) Mollenkopf of Ovid, NY and Walter G. Scherer III of Fairport, NY; grandchildren, Jaysen (Caroline) Vollertsen, Tracey (Michael) Stalker, Gwen (Jeffrey) Smith, Thomas Taylor, Justin (Mary) Mollenkopf, Joshua (Lacey) Mollenkopf, Cameron Mollenkopf, Josephine and Timothy Scherer, Mandy Parrish, Stacy (Joshua) Mayzak, Shawn (John) Orlopp, Tiffany and Steven Bertou; 17 great grandchildren and the 18 th on the way; siblings, Daniel, Jr. and Robert Turner; step-brothers, David, Robert and Richard Van Waes.
Friends may join the family for Walter's calling on Saturday (April 23) from 10 AM – 12 PM, at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1040 Rte. 31, Macedon, NY, where his funeral service will be held at 12 PM. Interment at White Haven Memorial Park (meet at front gate at 1:30 PM). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Rd., Lyons, NY 14489.
