William "Bill" Lee Cannan
Ontario/Webster: Bill passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at age 80 after a short illness. Bill was born on Monday, April 23, 1945 in Rochester. He is preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Bill Cannan; sister Barbara "Cannan" Fischer; brothers-in-law Ronald Fischer, and Leslie Bater. Bill is survived by his loving wife, of 56 years, Kathleen and his caring children Scott (Melissa Fulmer), Colleen O’Connell, and Shawn (Melissa Hassos); 8 grandchildren Colin, Mya, Jack, Joe, Matthew, Connor, Brian and Molly. Bill was also survived by his siblings, Eleanor Bater, Frank (Betty) Cannan, and Sharon (Wes) Bater; along with several nieces and nephews.
In life, Bill loved his children, and grandchildren immensely and all their endeavors. Another favorite was travel including trips around the world and South America, great memories for him and his wife. His hobby as everyone knew were his LEGO. Having traveled to Denmark the location where they are made he truly engrossed himself into his hobby. He was a boy scout and adult volunteer for years. Was proud being the father of an Eagle Scout and grandfather of 2 Eagles. Having served in the US Navy, right out of High School, in Iceland and Puerto Rico, which led him to his career in the communication industry for over 45 years. He was recognized as a young boy as an entrepreneur, with his paper route in Webster and won awards that took him to the State Fair. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Legion #428, Ontario NY will be appreciated.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 10-11AM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519 where a service will immediately follow. Inurnment will be private, at a later date, at Bath National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation in memory of Bill may be directed to the Meyers-Ingraham American Legion Post 428 (www.nylegionpost428.com), 6180 Knickerbocker Road, Ontario, NY 14519.
