Obituary

William F. Caffyn of Palmyra, NY passed away on May 27, 2026.

William was born on August 10, 1942 in Clifton Springs, NY. He built a life defined by the deep pride he took in his family, hard work, and simple pleasures of the outdoors. He was a master of his craft in septic installation, always striving for a job done right.

Whether he was bird hunting with his German Shorthair Pointers in the field, spending time at Deer Camp, birdwatching, mowing his lawn, or casting a line into the water he was always happy outdoors. Baseball was a favorite pastime from the time he was a little boy, continuing through coaching Little League Baseball, and watching his son and grandsons play ball. Although baseball was his passion, he was there for any and all activities that his children and grandchildren participated in. He was their greatest fan and always cheered them on from the sidelines. He will be remembered for his engaging stories, quick wit, remarkable talent for trick shots and the simple sick-figure drawings that became uniquely his own.

Survived by his wife, Suzanne, three children Jane (Dale) Maclaughlin, Sheelah (Barry) Zink, and Christopher (Sara) Caffyn, five grandchildren Paul, Benjamin, and Lauren (Cavanaugh Chaires) Zink, William and Ryan Caffyn, and two great grandchildren Cayden and Kylah Chaires. Also survived by sister-in-law Barbara Miller, brother-in-law Timothy McKenna, cousins Donald Smith and Linda Neale, and many nieces and nephews.

Following a private burial, friends and family are invited to Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1040 Rte. 31, Macedon, NY, on Wednesday, July 1st from 4pm - 6pm. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William’s memory to the Palmyra Community Center or Pal-Mac Baseball Boosters.

The family would like extend a heartfelt thank you to the remarkable staff at Huntington Living Center for the compassionate care they provided.

William leaves behind a legacy of laughter, family, and a life well-lived. His stories will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of hearing them.
