Obituary

Ontario, NY: Passed away on Saturday, December 13 surrounded in love by his family. Beloved father of three and grandfather of six, he, together with his wife of 47 years, Nancy, built a life centered on their family and the needs of others. Upon his retirement as a school administrator, he served many area school districts as an interim administrator. Described by others as a great man and a true friend, Bill routinely stepped in during the most trying time experienced by others, often quietly but always sincerely.

Born in Anchorage, Alaska on Elmendorf Air Force Base and raised in Naples, NY, Bill was a proud alumnus of Naples High School, where he served as the senior class president. Planning his class's annual reunions kept him tied to the Big Green Machine throughout his life. As a graduate of Houghton College, followed by a master's degree at Ithaca College, he became a music teacher at Greenwood and Jasper-Troupsburg Central Schools before settling in Ontario, NY where he held administrative positions at Wayne Central School District before rising to Assistant Superintendent for Business and Personnel at West Irondequoit Central School District.

Bill's desire to help others came from his innate ability to quickly read a situation and know what was needed. He understood what we, as people, owe each other and his service to his community, through his work with Rotary and other organizations, came from a pure place of responsibility and care. He believed that leadership - be it as a school administrator, in his work with school boards, or mentoring younger colleagues through professional organizations - meant showing up, listening closely, and doing the work, regularly behind the scenes. Simply, he took care of the people around him.

These same instincts guided how he raised his family. Bill was intentional with the values he passed on to his three children, determined to give them stability, opportunity, and unwavering support. His children were the center of his life, and their accomplishments became his greatest joy. He was deeply proud and his love was constant and steady. He was the kind of dad you looked forward to seeing, a testament to his relationship with his children.

Bill loved Nancy completely. Their years together was the foundation of his life, marked by partnership, humor, and mutual respect. Bill and Nancy were always finding ways to have fun. Both educators, they built a home together not only defined by care for their children and grandchildren, but as a social center of community activity and support. They routinely opened their home to foreign exchange students, fostering lasting relationships that would find Bill and Nancy traveling across the globe visiting their "children."

Bill had a dry, understated sense of humor and an impeccable sense of timing. He always knew when to insert a quick joke, and was the central cause of many nights of the family "having the giggles." He especially laughed at silly things, the dumber the better, and traded jokes back and forth with family and friends.

Music was central to who Bill was. He was a talented musician who forged his own path from a young age. He seeked out lessons, bought his own piano, and paid his way through school. At just 18, he sold his beloved Corvette so he could attend college, an early reflection of the perseverance and self-reliance that defined his life.

As an educator and administrator, Bill dedicated himself to guiding others, always available for a colleague in need. In his roles as Assistant Superintendent for Business and Personnel at West Irondequoit Central School District and as Executive Director of the New York State Association of School Personnel Administrators, he mentored countless school professionals and helped shape educational communities across the state. His commitment to students and educators alike was deep and personal, rooted in a belief that education changes lives. He was also deeply devoted to Rotary, an international service organization, serving in the past as president of the Ontario-Walworth chapter and continuing to work alongside his fellow Rotarians to support the local community as recently as this month.

Always surrounded by his six grandchildren, Bill delighted most of all in the baby stage as each was born. He made sure to build close relationships with each grandchild and his memory will live on in them. He cherished time around the campfire, especially with his family, less for the fire and more for the conversations the time together sparked. A loyal Buffalo Bills and Syracuse University sports fan, he spent each game day calling and texting his kids and close friends as the games progressed.

Bill's life offers clear guidance on how to honor him: notice when someone is in need and help however you can, love your family fully and without hesitation, do not forget to laugh at the absurdities in life, and do the daily Wordle, sharing it with someone you love.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy Thompson Domm; his children, Allison Horan (Bill Horan), William "BG" Domm (Crisy Sanfilippo), and Ashley Domm and his grandchildren, Harris, Owain, William, Arabella, Madison, and Aiden. He is also survived by his three sisters, Sandra Martin (Alex Martin), Susan Domm, and Mary Ann "Penny" Domm, several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is predeceased by his brother, John "Jack" Domm and his parents Bill Domm Jr. and Mary Ann Carlson.
