Obituary

William Phillips Wiegand

Canandaigua, NY:  Beloved husband, father, brother, teacher and friend, passed away peacefully at his Canandaigua, NY home on Sunday, September 21, 2025.  He was 73.

Born on Monday, October 29,1951 in Potsdam, NY, Bill was the son of Virginia and Oscar Wiegand.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Christine Clark Wiegand; his daughters, Dana and Bethany Wiegand of Bridgewater, NJ; and his siblings, Richard Wiegand of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and Susan Anderson of New Port Richey, Florida.

Bill was a graduate of Eckard College in St. Petersburg, Florida, earned his master's degree from the University of Maine-Orono, and received his teaching certification from the University of Connecticut-Storrs where he met and married his wife, Chris.

Bill taught English and German for 35 years, 33 of which were at the Lenape Regional High School in Medford, New Jersey.  Never one to be caught idle, he worked as "The Home Services Specialist" weekends and summers while Chris earned her degree in accounting.  Only after she graduated did he enjoy a summer of leisure, kayaking the bogs of the Jersey Pine Barrens, sailing his beloved Hobie Cat, and camping with the family at Keuka Lake State Park in Jerusalem, New York.

Bill and Chris retired to what he called their little "farmette" in Penn Yan, NY, just 3 miles from that state park.  Bill planted fruit trees, took pride in his bountiful apple harvest, and thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at The Humane Society of Yates County as long as his health allowed.

Bill faced many health challenges causing Bill and Chris to sell their beloved "farmette" last year and move to Canandaigua where they were blessed to make many wonderful friends in their new church and community and to enjoy Bill's last year despite his failing health.

A memorial service will be held for Bill on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 11:00AM at The First Congregational Church of Canandaigua, UCC, 58 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424.  Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance.  The family would be honored to hear stories, and memories in celebration of Bill's life. In memory of Bill, and in lieu of flowers, the family would welcome that donations be made to The Humane Society of Yates County .  To share a memory of Bill, or a photo, please visit his obituary at www.murphyfuneralservices.com
