Diane Dennie Obituary

Diane K. Dennie

Sodus – Diane was born on February 26, 1960 in Rochester, NY. She was the youngest of 5 (at the time). Later in life, Diane found out that she had several other siblings that she was never told about, but she welcomed with open arms. Diane passed away on June 27, 2022.  She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Edith Short; brothers, Richard Newman and Ronald Van Sile; and sister, Carol Kernehan.

Diane is survived by her husband, David Dennie; child, Xavier (Darcy) Dennie-Miller; grandchildren, Arsyn, Cole, and Raina; siblings, Terry (Simone) Van Sile, Nancy Van Sile, Rolene (Michael) Vesa, and Donald (Carol) Degone; sisters-in-law, Elaine Van Sile and Elaine Lynnwood; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Diane was a kind, caring and compassionate person who went above and beyond to put others’ needs ahead of her own. She was an advocate for human rights and fought for the equal treatment of all people. She also loved animals and would frequently pick up injured animals, both domestic and wild, to help them.

As a lifetime member of the Palmyra Moose Lodge, Diane spent many years either leading or assisting with the Moose Teen Club and chaperoning at the state conventions. She believed in the value of a positive influence on our youth.

Diane loved travelling and would often share the pictures of beautiful sunsets she would find around the country with her husband. Her love of sunsets was passed down to her oldest grandchild, Arsyn, who she helped raise. She adored her three grandchildren and loved spending all of the time with them that she could. She enjoyed sharing her love of art with them, teaching them to color and draw.

Diane will be greatly missed by the ones she loved.

A celebration of Diane’s life will be held on Saturday (July 9), 1 PM at Palmyra Moose Lodge, 3808 Rte. 31, Palmyra, NY 14522.  With Diane’s love of art, sunsets and beautiful colors, her family wishes everyone to wear bright and colorful pastel clothing to her celebration to honor her. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Diane may be directed to Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Rd., Lyons, NY 14489 and/or to Moose Charities Inc., 155 S. International Dr., Mooseheart, Il 60539-1100. Written memories of Diane to be shared with her grandchildren as they grow would be appreciated.
