Joan Elizabeth Ferguson

Penfield: Age 94, passed away peacefully at Leroy Village Green, Leroy, NY on March 1, 2023. She was born in Penfield, NY on July 8, 1928, the second child of Mabel and Charles Welkley. Joan attended Potsdam and Geneseo Universities to receive her teaching degree. She married her childhood sweetheart Duane Charles Ferguson in 1950 and they raised three children in Penfield, NY, surrounded by their families and the family dairy business. As a member of the United Methodist Church in Penfield she loved to sing in the choir and sang lovely duets with her sisters. She also loved participating in the bell choirs at both Penfield and Cason United Methodist Church in Delray Beach, FL. She and Duane loved traveling throughout the United States and made multiple trips to Wyoming to see her sister and family. Upon retiring after 30 years of teaching kindergarten at grade schools in Penfield, the two happily retired in the Ft. Lauderdale area where they enjoyed the beaches and cruises.

She is predeceased by her parents; husband Duane C. Ferguson; sister Dawn VanThof; brothers-in-law Robert VanThof and Dave Karlik; sister-in-law Margot Ferguson; niece Debbie Daszczyszak.

Joan leaves behind to cherish her memories her children Doug (Jackie) Ferguson, Bonnie (Bob) Thurston, Jim (LuAnn) Ferguson; grandchildren Kelsey Ferguson, Kendall Ferguson; sister Faye Karlik; brother-in-law Robert Ferguson (age 100); nephews Wayne (Shelly) Karlik and Bill (Maria) Ferguson; nieces Sharon (Jim) Mullard, Judy (Mark) Soloman, and Patty Garritano; extended families.

A graveside service will be conducted at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Penfield, NY, where she will be interred next to her husband.
