Michael C. Plantenberg

Ontario – Michael passed away on July 6, 2021 at age 78.  He was born in Herkimer, NY to Leo and Eleanor Plantenberg.  Michael was predeceased by his parents and daughter-in-law, Theodora Plantenberg.

Mike, as friends called him, proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was involved in the Bay of Pigs Invasion and entertained dignitaries as part of the Navy Band. He married the love of his life, Patricia, who was his greatest supporter through the years. He was a self-taught man in many trades. In his time at Frontier, he became a Master Systems Engineer. Mike loved to work with his hands and was skilled at woodworking. He continued his life-long love of music by playing the tuba and trombone. He was devoted to his church, singing in the choir, participating in Mission Trips, including 2 trips to Costa Rica where he built churches and a trip to Biloxi to aid in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. He volunteered at Lifetime Care, offering companionship to fellow Veterans. His smile and handshake greeted many at his church's food pantry. Despite his successes, anyone who knew Mike knew that his greatest accomplishment was his family! He lived and breathed for his family and a bear hug was always guaranteed. He also enjoyed a good Western movie, winning a game of cards, and celebrating any occasion with a big bowl of ice cream.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patricia Plantenberg; children, Deb (Tom) Cumpston, Kim Peek, John Plantenberg, Rebecca (Will) Seymour, and Sarah Plantenberg; grandchildren, Jeff (Bridgett) and Karissa Cumpston, Irini (Richard) Korte, Eva, Michael, and Lillian Plantenberg, Hannah and William Seymour, Josh Peek; great grandchild, McKenna Cumpston; sister, Marilynn Mowris; sister-in-law, Peggy (Gary) Rudolph; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Michael will be held on Saturday (July 24), 2 PM at Covenant Life Fellowship, 1574 Hennessy Rd., Ontario, NY 14519. To leave Michael's family an online condolence, please visit Michael's tribute wall, www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
