Ruth V. Hennessey, née Gillette, 87, of Walworth, New York, passed peacefully on November 3rd, surrounded by family and her beloved dogs.
Born in 1936 in Brewster, New York, Ruth graduated from the University of Rochester School of Nursing in 1957. Ruth met husband-to-be Jack during a “routine traffic stop” while he was a Monroe County patrolman. She knew his beat and intentionally-accidentally exceeded the speed limit in his patrol area. They wed in 1958 and raised their family in the Walworth home they hand built in the early 1960s.
Ruth was a nurse in the Wayne Central School District until the early 90s, when she and Jack retired to spend time at their Fair Haven cottage, enjoying the boating life with their cherished 1959 Richardson cabin cruiser.
Ruth was a jazz aficionado, a tireless and accomplished crafter, and a highly regarded rug-hooker in the central New York region. She frequently participated in rug hooking workshops in the North East.
Ruth is survived by four children, Seanne Hennessey-Brown of Fairport, Matt (Colleen) of Sodus, Brigid Hennessey (David) of Williamstown, Massachusetts, and Damon (Lisa) of Chicago; five grandchildren; sister Elda Zulick of Saugerties, and her angel & niece Rachel Durham. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved sister Nancy Morgart (in 2021) and her husband Jack (in 2016).
