Macedon, NY: Was welcomed into The Lord’s heavenly arms on August 31, 2023, with her girls by her side, at the age of 88.  Shirley retired to South Daytona Beach, Florida in1982. In 2007 she moved back to Macedon, NY to be close to her family. Shirley was known for her generosity and fierce independence!

Shirley was born in Rochester, NY, on December 1, 1934, to parents Harry & Sarah Pemberton. Shirley is predeceased by her love, Carl Bettis; siblings, Arthur Pemberton, Beatrice Fisher, Alice Stith, and Earl Pemberton; and stepdaughter, Valerie (Fernando) Pintargo.  Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Marty) Engle; granddaughter, Desere (Katie Schmandt) Baker; grandson, Harley Baker; and was tokened with the loving name, "granner" by her great grandson, Carl James Lester.  Shirley is also survived by her sisters, Florence Perez and Eileen Fitzpatrick.  Shirley had several stepchildren, including Bruce (Chrissy) Bettis, Doris Holzschuh (Jim), Keith (Becky) Bettis and Carl Bettis, Jr. (Joanne); many treasured grandchildren, special nieces and nephews; along with many cherished friends.  

During Shirley's years of employment, she had worked in Rochester, NY for both Frech's and Xerox.  After her retirement, and move to Florida, Shirley worked as a proud crossing guard in the community, for several years. Shirley was an avid quilter, and over the years had won many awards for her beautiful and intricate work. The last quilt she completed won "Best of Fair" and "First Place" at the Wayne County Fair. She was a member of local quilting groups.  Shirley created her quilts out of love and enjoyed gifting them to family and friends.

A celebration of life service will take place on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Macedon, at 1pm, 58 West Main Street, Macedon, NY 14502.
