William "Bill" Vanslyke, Sr:

Ontario/Walworth: Born June 24, 1943, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023. He is predeceased by his parents Irving & Margaret Van Slyke; brother Robert Van Slyke; daughter Cindy Hoage and daughter-in-law Rena Van Slyke.  Survived by his wife of 57 years Carol "Harloff" Van Slyke; sons William "Bill" Jr (Rena) Van Slyke, and Keith (Lynne) Van Slyke; son-in-law Robert Hoage; grandchildren Kailyn Van Slyke, Alex Van Slyke, Kristen (Robert) Clark, Kellie (Randy) Clark, Nina (Nick) Ward, Jacob (Amy) Couch, several great grandchildren, nieces & nephews; brother Bud (Marilyn) Van Slyke, and sister Marleane (Bernie) Buholtz.

When Bill was younger, he was a police officer for the Town of Ontario. He became a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from General Motors in 2006. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also spent 20 years aiding pediatric cancer research with an annual golf tournament.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 2-4PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519.  A brief service will be offered at the close of visitation.  Please visit the tribute wall to Bill's obituary at www.murphyfuneralservices.com to leave a condolence, light a candle or upload a photo.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Bill may be directed to the American Heart Association, or the Dementia Society of America.

Bill has met a lot of people, made a lot of friends along the way and touched many lives. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
