Kathleen Smyth     "Nan"

Palmyra: Passed away unexpectedly, and peacefully, on Saturday, February 18, 2017.  Kathleen was born in Ashington, Northumberland, England on February 2, 1928 to the late Margaret "Gray" and John McGrath.  Mom was also predeceased by her husband, our dad, Samuel A. Smyth on September 9, 1978, her sister, Mary; brother, Jim; and mom is reunited with her beloved granddaughter Lesley who passed away in 2013.  Mom is survived by her children, stepson, Michael (Chris), Kevin (Melinda) Brian (Pam), Tim (Debbie), Sean (Jill), Dennis (Stephanie), Kammy (Bob) and Pat (Jenifer); loving grandchildren; great grandchildren; sisters, Eileen, Marge and Pat; brother, John (Arlene); her Canandaigua Street neighbor and dear friend, Mrs. Sue Rigney, as well as a host of people who adopted her as "Nan".

Friends and family will gather for a time of visitation on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4-7PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 123 East Jackson Street, Palmyra, NY 14522.  Mom's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 25, 2017, 10AM, in St. Katherine Drexel Parish, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 136 Church Street, Palmyra, NY 14522.  Interment will immediately follow at St. Anne's Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside our dad, her "Sam". Contributions to honor mom's life may be directed to one of her favorite Charities, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  We are so grateful for the excellent care mom received from her physician, Dr. Sahler and the wonderful medical staff at MM Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua, NY.  Mom will remain in our hearts forever.  To light a candle, leave a condolence, upload a photo, or order a floral arrangement, please visit www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
