Our History.

The roots of Murphy Funeral Services dates back to the late 19th century. Some of our early records date back to the 1880's. Today, there are three Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel locations to serve families. Murphy Funeral Home of Ontario was established in 1946 by Adelbert V. Murphy and Marian Murphy. This is where "Del" had grown up with his family. Their son, Stephen G. Murphy, became a funeral director and joined them in business in 1964. Steve purchased the Laushey Funeral Home, of Ontario, in 1967 and built on his families established reputation over the next two decades. Steve's son, Michael, graduated from Simmons institute of Funeral Service in May of 1991 and after completing his residency in Greece, NY he joined his families business in Ontario. Steve and Michael worked together to serve the families in Ontario and soon moved into Palmyra and Macedon, NY. Murphy Funeral Home of Palmyra is located in one of the Village of Palmyra's most beautiful and historic homes. This location is located in a quiet and peaceful setting on East Jackson Street. Understanding the need to have a newer facility to accomodate the needs of the families they serve Steve, and Michael, built the Murphy Funeral home of Macedon in 1996. Located at 1040 Route 31 in Macedon, the funeral home is all on one level and features large, open rooms and ample parking. Providing options for families in the area, combined with a strong commitment to service, Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels makes every effort to serve the needs of each family that calls upon them to assit during a very difficult time. Sadly, in February 2012, Michael P. Murphy passed away suddenly. Michael's absence has created a great loss for his family and the community. Stephen passed away in January 2017.  It is the desire of everyone associated with the funeral home to continue serving the community in the manner that families have grown to expect. Through the efforts of Wayne Brophy, Eric Van Zeilen and the entire staff of Murphy Funeral Services, the families entrusting their loved ones into their care can continue to expect the same high level of service. As of November 30, 2012 all three locations operate under the name of Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels.

What makes our funeral home unique?

An owner of the funeral home is always available. We operate 24/7, 365 days a year. We know each family is unique and we therefore understand that each family will have different wants and needs when it comes to arranging services for a family member. Although we provide various types of merchandise through caskets, vaults, urns, etc., our focus is on our service. We understand that families can obtain merchandise at any establishment but can only obtain our service through our funeral home. Therefore, we consider it a privilege that a family selects us to conduct services. We work hard to earn the trust of a family and understand we must continue to work hard to maintain that trust. Thank you for allowing us to serve your family through this difficult time.

What does a funeral cost?

A funeral service through Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels can be as simple as a direct cremation, or a direct burial. New York State allows us to package these two services for families. For example, our direct cremation includes the transfer of the deceased into our care, an alternative container for cremation, obtaining, completing and filing of necessary documents, transfer to the crematory for cremation and returning the cremated remains back to the arranging party. The cost of this service is $895.00. The crematory fee, death certificates and any newspaper charges would be added to this charge.

NOTE: Pricing for all services provided is available on our General Price List (GPL). Casket, burial vault, urn, and other merchandise pricing is also available. Cost information is available in person, but is also available over the phone. Simply give us a call, tell us about the services you are interested in and we will provide you with an overview of the cost associated with the type(s) of services you are looking to have for your family, or friend. We are available 24/7. You are welcome to remain anonymous; as you are never required to provide your personal information. If you are interested, we encourage you to meet Wayne, Eric and the entire staff. A tour of the funeral home(s) is always welcome and encouraged. We are confident you will see value in how we blend the services of our people and our facilities with the needs of the families we serve. Our references show how often we go above and beyond the expectations of a those we serve.

If you wish to have additional services, and, or merchandise then you are welcome to select from various options on our General Price List (GPL). We also assist families with obtaining outside costs associated with their desired services. These are often refered to as cash advance items and a newspaper notice (obituary) is an example.

We offer the convenience of being able to select items such as flowers, monuments, etc. with our arranging directors. Service is our focus so we make every effort to offer families the convenience of doing everything right in one of our 3 locations.
